CPR Provider (CPR)

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training has become a standard adjunct to first aid response since the technique was first described in the 1950’s. Millions of people throughout the world have taken time to learn this important skill. Its use in the field has no doubt saved countless lives. Everybody, from the professional EMS provider to children should complete this course or one similar.

This program will not deviate from well understood methods. The procedures contained within this course have been used with success for many years. There is simply little need for change with the exception of the new technology surrounding AED’s (automated external defibrillators). As these devices become more prevalent and even easier to use than they are currently, this option will increase the effectiveness of dealing with any heart arrhythmia or stoppage. While at this moment, training for AED’s is available (typically these courses are unit specific training programs), this text will confine itself to describing the benefits and some general guide es, It is the hope that AED’s will someday become as common as a fire-exfinguisher and as easy to use.

This course is not intended to be self taught, by home-study or multi-media. Your ANDI instructor will be instrumental in expanding on certain issues. Ample time is set aside for “hands-on-experience”. We believe that people learn by doing. The bottom line is to give you the information you need, experience to make it relevant and time for you to become comfortable.
Have some fun because we know that nobody is making you do this, but take careful notes, and practice your skills seriously. It is likely that you may be called upon some day to apply your skills.
Students of the ANDI CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) course should possess a certification from a recognized training agency as an Oxygen Administration Provider. ANDI offers a fine program in this important skill. Oxygen administration is an essential lifesaving skill sometimes used in conjunction with CPR and is not covered in this course. The Oxygen Provider rating is not a prerequisite for participation in this course, however it is a highly recommended skill.
